2014 Building Excellence & Residential Growth (BERG) Awards Gala

The Newfoundland and Labrador residential construction industry celebrated the best  in the industry at the Sheraton Hotel tonight with 300 guests.   The event was attended by many industry professionals, including Kevin Lee, CEO CHBA National.

Highlights of the evening were the presentation of 12 awards in the categories of new home construction, renovation, safety, sub-trade, supplier, green build and marketing. “The BERG Awards recognize achievement in high quality workmanship, customer service, energy efficiency, and professionalism in new home construction and renovations,” says Victoria Belbin, CEO for CHBA-NL, “This has been our most competitive year to date for these Awards”.

The 2014 BERG Award winners are:

New Home Award – Over 2200 sq ft – Winner: ERCO Homes Inc.

New Home Award – Between 1500-2200 sq ft – Winner:  JWR Homes Ltd.

New Home Award – Under 1500 sq ft – Winner:  ERCO Homes Inc.

New Home Multi Family – Condo – Winner:  Karwood Contracting

Green Build Award – Winner:  Butler’s Quality Contracting Ltd.

Renovator – Kitchen Award – Winner:  Jalera Enterprises Inc.

Renovator’s Choice Award – Winner:  Homeworx Modular Home Systems

Marketing of New Homes Award – Winner:  Karwood Contracting

Real Estate – New Home Sales Team or Individual – Winner:  RE/MAX Infinity Realty

Sub-Trade Award – Winner:  NL Basements Systems

Supplier Award – Winner:  NL Basements Systems

Safety Award – Winner:  Butler’s Quality Contracting Ltd.

In addition to the BERG Awards, the CHBA-NL celebrated its volunteers with the Member of the Year Awards.

  • Terry Walsh of Terry Walsh Contracting received the Member of the Year in the “Builder” category
  • Vic Rowe of Atlantic Home Warranty received the Member of the Year in the “Non Builder” category
  • Sheldon Colbourne received the Roof Topper of the Year Award for member recruitment

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association – NL went on to honour Pat Mulchay, CEO of Atlantic Home Warranty, with an Honorary Member of the Year Award as he celebrates 19 years in the industry.

The event was also a fundraising opportunity for Habitat for Humanity NL:  www.habitatnl.com

This year’s prestigious event celebrates growth in the residential construction industry in this province, producing $2 billion in investment value and supporting over 14,300 jobs, amounting to $829 million in wages.

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Newfoundland and Labrador is the voice of the province’s residential construction industry. Membership includes new home builders, renovators, developers, trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, lenders and other professionals. The Association exists to protect housing affordability and to enhance the professionalism of the industry.
