CHBA-NL Welcomes National Conference Delegates to St. John’s

Date May 10

We are offering two tours to show off our unique history and environment from McCarthy’s Party.

May 10th – 3:30 pm

Option 1:  Historic St. John’s and Cape Spear Tour with Newfoundland Chocolate and Port Tasting (approximately 2 hours)

This is a great orientation of St. John’s, as well as the most Easterly point in North America.  You will be driven to the National Historic site of Cape Spear; where you may walk through a World War II gun battery, look for whales, while having a chance to visit the oldest standing light house in North America.  Then we will head back into the city to see the beautiful view on top of Signal Hill while hearing the historic tales of North America’s oldest colony.  Other stops include Quidi Vidi Village, Government House, the Roman Catholic Cathedral and an orientation of the shops and restaurants of downtown St. John’s.  After, we will visit Newman’s Wine Vault for a sample of the famous Newman’s Port and delicious Newfoundland Chocolate.

City View

$75 per person (includes transportation, guide, tour, entrance fees, wine and chocolate tasting, and tax)

Option 2:  Bird Island Boat Tour (approximately 3 hours)

The tour begins with a drive down the Southern Shore to the historic Irish outport of Bay Bulls.  Here we take a boat ride out to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve Bird Islands, home to thousands of Atlantic Puffins, Murres and Kittiwakes in the spring and summer.  Although it is early in the season, we will look for whales which frequent this bay in the summer months. May is iceberg month in Newfoundland and Labrador so if any of these natural wonders are in the Bay, we will certainly get a good look at these giants.
