Federal Government Tackles Canada’s “Underground Economy”

The Honourable Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, P.C., Q.C., Minister of National Revenue and Minister for the Canada Revenue Agency, hosted the inaugural Minister’s Underground Economy (UE) Advisory Committee meeting. A new CRA UE strategy, developed in consultation with stakeholders, is expected to be released in the near future. “[This] initiative takes collaboration to a whole new level and, most importantly, provides a stronger voice to the very businesses that are most affected by this illegal activity,” said the Minister.

The CHBA was pleased to be a big part of both the advisory committee inaugural meeting and the media event that preceded it. CHBA was also pleased that its Get it in Writing! campaign was lauded as a great example of how to address the underground economy effectively.

CHBA has issued a Press Release on the Committee meeting, including speaking notes from the media event where two renovator members and CHBA CEO, Kevin Lee, spoke. The Release can be found here: http://chba.ca/about/news-pubs.aspx?id=101
