Our CHBA-NL delegates returned from a very successful trip to Ottawa, taking part in a conversation about homes, communities and Canadians. The CHBA put together recommendations for the federal role, which includes protecting affordability, tackling the underground economy in home renovation, supporting skilled trades development and advancing innovation in Canadian housing.

CHBA leaders from across the country and at every level of the Association attended over 50 meetings with Ministers, MPs, Senators, ministerial staff and senior government officials during the 2nd annual Forum for Growth. The delegation was officially recognized in the House of Commons prior to Question Period with a Member’s Statement from MP Phil McColeman.
CHBA advanced its agenda with meetings that included party leaders and officials from the four national parties, as well as Ministers of State, Parliamentary Secretaries, Committee Chairs and ministerial staff for every government department that has a role in housing.
Following a productive round of meetings with Ministers, MPs, Senators, ministerial staff and senior government officials, the CHBA Board of Directors sat down to debrief for next steps in Association government relations and to review a draft update to the Association’s Strategic Plan.
Consensus was that the Forum was unquestionably a huge success, with members very pleased with the event and their many meetings with key decision-makers in Ottawa. Members can see the day from the perspective of participants by following #CHBAForum2014 on Twitter.
The Board also deliberated over a new draft Strategic Plan, based on directions given during the Board meetings in the fall and in Whistler during the National Conference, plus a recent strategic planning session by the Board’s Executive Committee. The approved new CHBA Strategic Plan will be posted shortly, once edits based on today’s session are completed.
